36”x 36” | oil, wood, speakers, and electronic components on canvas
“Electro Buzzin” utilizes objects such as speakers and other electronic components to portray DJ and musician, Benga. Since a young age, the creation of music has been an enormous part of Benga’s life. The objects fused within the layers of oil paint, emphasize the dedication the young artist has for his work. When the painting is viewed straight on, the portrait aligns perfectly; but, as the viewer moves to either side of the painting, the image becomes distorted. Some speakers become flat, while others protrude, electricity travels on a three-dimensional path above the canvas, and the musician’s eye telescopes outward. The background and foreground seem to mesh together as one, all the while encompassing one central theme, electronic music.
