“Flight”

36” x 36” | watercolor and wire sculpture on canvas

The intricate line work of “Flight” is created by a complex web of copper wires. The wires were soldered together to form a three-dimensional sculpture of a dragonfly. The sculpture was then attached to the canvas and its shadows were captured using watercolor paint. Additional lighting causes new shadows to form; these shadows, along with the painted shadows, emulate the movement of a dragonfly’s wings and body during flight. The blurred landscape beneath the sculpture mimics the rapidly changing scenery of a high speed flight.
