“The Man Behind The Trumpet”

36” x 36” | oil, wood, resin, and trumpets, on acrylic plastic

“The Man Behind The Trumpet” depicts an iconic image of Louis Armstrong; accompanied by two real trumpets. Both the portrait and the trumpets have been painted in oil paint, each possessing its own unique style. The portrait is done in a realistic manner, drawing attention to Armstrong and his distinct personality. Whereas, the trumpets and his bowtie were painted using a more abstract approach, and at times, become lost in the background. This piece was donated to the T.J. Martell Foundation and sold at auction to help fund cancer research.
